High times ahead at Flandreau Santee Sioux resort in Flandreau
FLANDREAU, S.D. — The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is opening the nation’s first marijuana resort at its reservation in Flandreau. The facility is expected to open near the tribe’s existing casino and hotel by the end of the year.
Tribal officials note that the resorts’ lounge building will be the only place in the complex or on the reservation where patrons will be allowed to buy and consume marijuana. In addition to the lounge, the facility will also feature state-of-the-art marijuana growing operation with its 65 strains of plants that will be offered to the resort’s patrons. The resort, which will have a capacity of about 1,000 people, will also feature food, drinks and live music.
The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe legalized marijuana on its reservation in June.
