South Dakota campers pitch an all-time high
SOUTH DAKOTA — More people camped in South Dakota’s state parks than ever before in 2014. According to the state’s Game, Fish and Parks Department, a record 290,000 nights of camping at state parks were recorded in 2014, a 3.8-percent jump over 2013.
Sheps Canyon and and Fisher Grove state parks had big increases in campers, while Good Earth state park saw a 27-percent increase last year compared to 2013. That translates to 20,000 more visitors at Good Earth in 2014.
In addition, state officials expect 2015 to be another big years for campers, as the Buffalo Roundup at Custer State Park in the Black Hills is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
